| Day 1 : Boarding starts at 3.30 pm at Fethiye marina. Dinner will be served on the yacht and we will overnight on board in Fethiye Marina close to the old town centre. An interesting bustling market town that serves the tourist areas of Olu Deniz and Hisaronu close by, Fethiye has a long history. In the hills above lie the haunting ruins of Kayakoy, abandoned in the Population Exchange of the 1920’s, recreated in an excellent book ‘Birds without Wings’.In ancient times Fethiye was known as Telmessos, a Lycian town close to the Caria kingdom border. Dating from those times are the cliff tombs above the town, the most famous being the tomb of King Amyntas. The town’s name changed over the centuries to Makri but the modern name is said to be from 1914 after the first Turkish AirForce Officer Fethi Bey who crashed his plane and died here . **(According to your request , you may also spend the overnight on a closer bay ,rather than staying on the port.) |
